In 2015, Image Now worked with our colleagues in Brighter than the Sun to develop a fully immersive musical experience for "Alvin and the Chipmunks".
Based on the characters from the hit Twentieth Century Fox movies, the show brought the music and excitement of a live rock concert to life as the Chipmunks performed hits by One Direction, Maroon 5, Carly Rae Jepsen and Elvis Presley. From an “old school” breakdancing competition in Chicago , to a no-holds-barred food ﬁght in New York City, and with the Chipettes along for the wild ride, Chipmunk fans from coast to coast experienced it all live through an immersive brand experience.
The team pushed the boundaries of standard production methods by using the latest in projection technology, digital mapping software and GPS-enabled automated rigging to create the stage setting for the entire show. The team developed a number of unique scenes that allowed the team to be versatile with their script writing. Being so versatile with the technology allowed the characters to bounce around from city to city. Each scene was created digitally, modelled, textured and animated.
By embracing digital technology, we were able to enhance the power of storytelling in a way that had not been done previously. At each stage of the fun-packed performance, audience members were treated to a variety of special effects designed to involve them in the storytelling process.
The final solution was a fully immersive stage environment that captured the imagination of an ever-evolving audience.
The interactive live musical stopped at 45 different cities worldwide.
